A |     LONDON -- A British Muslim convert who was convicted in Turkey of being part of the Islamic State group pleaded guilty at a U.K. court Monday to having a firearm for terrorism purposes and two charges of funding terrorism.Aine Davis, 39, was deported to the U.K. in August 2022 after serving time in prison in Turkey. He was charged and detained by British counterterrorism police upon arriving at London's Luton Airport.Davis on Monday pleaded guilty by video link from a southeast London prison to possessing a firearm for terrorism purposes and funding terrorism between 2013 and 2014.British authorities had long suspected that Davis was part of an Islamic State group cell known as “The Beatles” — so called because of the men's British accents — that tortured and killed Western hostages in Syria a decade ago, when IS controlled a large swath of Syria and Iraq. Davis denies being connected to the cell. Two members of the “Beatles” cell, Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh, were captured by U.S.-backed Kurdish forces in 2018 and are serving life sentences in the U.S. A third, Mohammed Emwazi, who carried out executions of captives and was nicknamed “Jihadi John,” was killed in a drone strike in 2015.Defense lawyer Mark Summers alleged that Britain's government had tried in vain to get Davis extradited for prosecution there. Summers said the plan was abandoned after prosecutors in Virginia clarified last year that they were not seeking to put Davis on trial as a member of the “Beatles” cell.Davis travelled from London to Syria in 2013, and was arrested in Istanbul in 2015 after being found using a forged travel document. His offenses were largely uncovered from his communications with Amal El-Wahabi, his wife at the time, who did not travel with him to Syria. Prosecutors said he enlisted her to persuade a friend to bring him 20,000 euros to support his terrorist cause in Syria. The friend was stopped at Heathrow Airport in 2014, and El-Wahabi was later convicted of funding terrorism. Police found photos on El-Wahabi's phone showing Davis posing with men holding guns and rifles. [리포트]故 장미란 씨 가족이 경찰에 두번째 실종 신고를 접수한 건 지난달 19일.실종자 사촌동생 (지난 20일)"(남자친구가)신고를 다시 해볼게 하고 가셨는데 그 이력 때문에 (제주 경찰이)안 받아준다 이렇게 돼서 그래서 노원경찰서에 가서 이제 일요일인가 토 일요일이었나 가서 신고를…."하지만, 1차 실종신고에 문제가 있다는 걸 경찰이 파악한 건, 두번째 신고 뒤 24일이 지난 이달 11일이었습니다.최초 신고를 담당했던 경장이 장 씨와 통화한 기록이 없다는 걸 확인하면서, 112시스템과 실종프로파일링 시스템 자료가 차례로 조작된 정황을 포착한 겁니다.제주서부경찰서는 같은 날 제주경찰청에 수사를 의뢰했고, 경찰은 사흘 뒤 해당 경장을 입건했습니다.수사 결과, 해당 경장은 "실종자와 연락이 닿았다"며 장 씨와 60대 남성의 실종 신고를 각각 다른 사유로 종결처리한 것으로 드러났습니다.장 씨에겐 '교통사고 사망'을, 60대 남성에겐 '소재 발견'이라는 거짓 사유로 실종자 목록에서 보이지 않게 없애버린 겁니다.이 때문에 경찰이 실종 3개월이 지난 뒤 다시 휴대전화 위치값을 토대로 한림항 일대를 수색했지만, 장 씨는 한림항에서 1㎞ 떨어진 숙소 인근에서 발견됐습니다.장 씨 휴대전화 신호가 포착된 기지국입니다.탁 트인 평지라 신호 범위가 넓어 위치를 좁히지 못했습니다.경찰은 "장 씨가 발견된 지점 역시 해당 기지국 통신 범위 안이었다"고 해명했습니다.TV조선 김서정입니다.。
